Joy Island Dive Sites
Amra
Boat Trip 25 Min.
Is located at the north west end of Dhiya Adi Faru (Low Tide Reef). The reef did form a finger out in the channel.
Starting from 7m falling down to a saddle on 15m where we find a crack in the reef. In the front of the finger are several blocks
And overhangs between 20 to 30 meters.
White Tip Reef Sharks, Eagle Rays, Red Snappers, Nurse Sharks, Sting Rays, Bluefin Jack passing by, Morey eels and Turtles hiding in the overhangs..
Anniela Thila
Boat Trip 30 Min.
Located at a inside Atoll reef 30 minutes north – east of Joy Island. The wall starting from a shallow 4 meters top reef and falling vertical or even as an overhang down to 25m, to 30m.where you can find Coral Blocks, and Halimeda Ghost pipefish. A very good place for a Night Dive. The Overhangs and the Wall are covered in Sponges and leaf plate corals. Glassfishes, Nudi Branches Crabs and different kind of Shrimp living in the little caves. Turtles cruising along.
Asdhoo Wreck
Boat Trip 30 Min.
The Wreck is located on a Giri South of Asdhoo Island. The Wreck lies in the Sand with a maximum depth of 22 meters.
The upper part of the wreck is going up to 10 meters. The reef behind the Wreck turns into a wall in direction north.
A place for Macro lovers. Nudibranchs, Wart snails, Banded Pipefish and Frogfish hiding on the wreck. Different Sponges cover the whole wreck and many colorful Reef Fish are around.
Coral Garden
Boat Trip 15 Min.
Inside Reef Located North – East of Joy Island. Amazing coral reef start from 4m on the top reef and inside the lagoon 6m with full of Table corals and Branching Corals.
The reef forms as drop off like a wall with overhangs and an excellent place for a Night Dive.
White Tip Reef Sharks, Turtles, Fusiliers ere everywhere, different type of juvenal’s and Harlequin Filefish.
Helengeli Thila
Boat Trip 50 Min.
Located in the Channel between Helengeli and Patina Island. The top reef of the Thila is on 10 Meters.
With outgoing current, the divers will hold on at the west plateau of the Thila on 25 meters. At the north side we find a huge overhang on 25 meters full with Sea Fan corals.
With a medium to strong outgoing Current the Grey Reef Sharks are staying in the front of the Thila where all the other fish schooling. Eagle Rays are gliding smoothly in the current also huge Tunas passing by.
Holhi Wall
Boat Trip 15 Min.
Located at a inside reef North – East of Joy Island. The wall starting from a shallow 3 meters top reef and falling vertical or even as an overhang down to 25m, where you can find several Coral Blocks.
It’s also a very nice dive site for the night dive.
The Overhangs and the Wall are covered in Sponges and leaf plate corals. Glassfishes, Nudi Branches Crabs and different kind of Shrimp living in the little caves. Turtles cruising along the top reef.
The legend says, that the Holhi wall is home of a Tiger Shark, with some luck you might see it.
HP Reef
Boat Trip 70 Min.
To reach in 75 Minutes with the Dhoni in direction Male. One of the most colorful dive sites on North Male Atoll. On the south side of Girifushi Island, this site has abundant fish life and very nice soft corals. There are numerous blue soft corals and a swim through. The current can be strong!! Easy to find schools of jack and trevally, rainbow runners, barracuda, and tunas. Sometimes eagle rays and grey reef sharks are around as well.
Joy Corner
Boat Trip 5 Min.
Our “House Reef” at the North outside Corner of the Joy Island. The top reef starts on shallow 3 meters with a gentle slop to 30 meters.
In the direction South the slop change to an overhang where we can discover The Joy Caves on 20 Meters.
Nurse Sharks like the holes in the coral blocks to rest in and usually White Tip reef Sharks swimming along the slop. Several types of Morey eels, Turtles and napoleons.

Our “House Reef” at the North outside Middle of Kasanfaru. The top reef starts on 5 meters with a Drop off to 40 meters. Full of Common Stony Corals Like a Coral Stadium on the top reef.
Several Big Coral blocks on the top reef.
White Tip Reef Sharks, Eagle Rays, Turtles, Morey eels, Schools of Snappers, Giant Trevally passing by with Huge Tunas, a big School of Bat Fishes.
Joy Outside
Kaan Reef
Boat Trip 5 Min.
Located in the North outside the opposite side of Joy Corner, The East Corner of the Heart reef. The top reef start from 5 meters as gentle slop to 30 meters Plateau where you can find Big stuff.
Inside the corner with several big blocks laying on 25 meters and a big healthy Pinnacle. Several overhangs with full of Sea Fan Corals. A perfect drift dive with Incoming and Outgoing current.
Full of Fusiliers, White Tip Reef Sharks, Napolean’s, Nurse Sharks, Turtles, Sting Rays, Leopard Shark and Schools of Snappers.
Kuda Thila
Boat Trip 30 Min.
The “small” Thila is located south of Ashdoo Island at the west end of Maabadhifaru and it is connected to the long reef with a 25 meter deep reef.
The Top Reef is 4 Meter deep, at the south east corner it has a wall which changing to a slope on the north side and the Thila is connected with a long reef.
Long Nose Hawks Hish hiding in Black coral trees. Nudis and Mantis Shrimp can be spotted. White Tip Reef Sharks staying in the deeper part where the Thila is connected with the long reef.
Lankan Manta Point
Boat Trip 1.5 Hours.
To reach in 90 Minutes with the Dhoni in direction Male. The cleaning stations are located at the out reef and can have a moderate to strong current. Between May to November Mantas can be spotted at the cleaning stations. Two cleaning Stations for Mantas are located at Lankan. The shallow on is around 15 meters deep, the deeper one at 25 meters.
Madi Miyaru Kanmathi
Boat Trip 1.5 Hours.
Located at Holhumale harbor entrance. A sandy plateau starting from 17 meters from the harbor wall down to more than 30 meters. Parts of the dive will be in the blue water.
Pelagic place where we usually see Spinner-, Tiger-, and Guitar Sharks. Also Stingrays, Feathertail Rays, Eagle Rays and Marbled Rays. With a bit luck the Great Hammerhead and Bull shark passing by.
Manta Bay
Boat Trip 20 Min.
The bay is the west end of Dhiya Adi Faru (Low Tide Reef). The U shape of the Bay and the two small Thilas in the middle are the perfect trap for Plankton in outgoing Current.
The reason why Mantas love to feed on that place. Current can be medium to strong.
Because of the huge number of Plankton, the bay is full of fusiliers, red tooth triggerfish and surgeonfish schools. Mantas are feeding in the outgoing current during the south-west monsoon.
Manta Point
Boat Trip 20 Min.
The Cleaning station is located in a sandy bay at Dhiya Adi Faru (Low Tide Reef).
The Sandy floor around the Cleaning Station is 12 meters deep which makes this dive to a shallow dive but the current can be strong.
During the south-west Monsoon (April-November) the Mantas come to the cleaning station in a daily routine to let the cleaner fish clean wounds and remove bacteria from the skin, mouth.
Miyaru Thila
Boat Trip 10 Min.
Our “house Thila” is located to north, in the middle of a wide Channel. The top of the Thila is 8m below the surface.
In the east a sandy slop is falling down to 30 meters the north and the south corner have overhangs and reef blocks on 25 meters. The Thila is exposed to current.
With middle to strong outgoing current Grey Reef Sharks, Napoleon and Eagle Rays like to stay in the front of the Thila. There the divers will gently hold on at the reef. School of silver Jack.
At the end of Thila you can find a big school of Barracudas.
Boat Trip 20 Min.
Located at the North – East corner of Dhiya Adi Faru (low tide reef). Two huge and impressive overhangs from 15 to 20 meters can be discovered.
The reef around the overhangs falling down in a slope to more than 30 meters.
White Tip Reef Sharks and Napoleons along the slop and Barracudas in the blue. Stingrays resting in the overhang. Moray eel and Mantis shrimp in the little caves of the reef. Fan corals in the overhang and on the reef.
Nixie Cave's
Prisca Corner
Boat Trip 20Min.
Located on the north east end of Maabadhifaru. Starting the dive inside, several Overhangs even with a swim trough can be discovered.
The slope becomes steeper towards the Corner.
The slope at the Corner is full of hard Corals. Octopus hiding in little Caves. Napoleons, White Tip Reef Sharks and with the right current even Grey Reef Sharks can be spotted.
Prisca Head
Boat Trip 25 Min.
Located on the south east end of Maabadhifaru. There is a shallow top reef on 4 Meters, falling down in a slope to a very wide plateau on 30 meters.
The slop and the top reef is full of red tooth Triggerfish and different kind of Surgeonfish. White Tip Reef Sharks, Napoleons and also Stingrays are often to see..
Reethi Thila
Boat Trip 20 Min.
“The beautiful” is located inside of the atoll, north– east of Asdhdoo Island. The top reef is 3 meters deep and the walls on the side falling down to 30 meters.
It is a small Thila, which can be circumnavigated in an hour.
Huge black corals in which Longnose Hawks Fish are living. Turtles feed on the top reef. Stonefish, Nudis, Mantis shrimp and Moray Eels are in the Wall.
School of Batfish, Bannerfish and Red tooth Triggerfish
Shallow Point
Boat Trip 30 min.
Located between Meeru Island and Meeru Corner. The top reef is shallow 4 Meters with several reef blocks.
A slop is falling down to a plateau on 25 to 30 meters.
Green- and Hawksbill Turtles eating or relaxing in the shallow part. Hump head Parrotfish, Napoleons and Eagle Rays cruising. And Whitetip or Blacktip Reef Shark can passing by.
Snapper Point
Boat Trip 15 Min.
This Dive Site located East side of Kassanfaru Corner. There are several coral blocks start from 5 to 20 meters. Reef look like nice Gentle slop.
Many different species of the fishes. Red snappers, Yellow goat fishes, Blue striped snappers, Grey reef sharks, White tip reef sharks, Napoleons, Batfishes, Eagle rays..
Thumba Cave's
Boat Trip 30 Min.
Located at the North Wall of Thumba Island. A vertical Wall with several Caves between 20 – 25 Meters. It’s a Channel dive and might have a medium to strong current.
The Caves are home for Moray Eels, Shrimps, Glassfish, Nudis and other macro. Eagle Rays, Tuna and White Tip Reef Sharks passing by.
Trix Caves
Boat Trip 35 Min.
This reef is located inside the channel at the northeast of North Male Atoll and offers some interesting overhangs and some swim-throughs for those who enjoy putting their buoyancy skills to use.
A great spot for enjoying different reef fish species, searching for octopus, lobster, nudibranch. Enjoy the coral and marine life found in the overhangs.
Wall Reef
Boat Trip 10 Min.
Located 15 minutes north – east of Joy Island. The wall is at the west part of the dive site and starting from a shallow 2 meters top reef and falling down to 25m. The east part of the dive site is a slop with several coral blocks. The Wall is covered in Sponges and leaf plate corals. In the cracks and caves you can find Nudi Branches, Crabs, Lobsters and different kind of Shrimp.
